Why choose our Centers?
In New York State laser and IPL technicians do
not require any medical license or any previous
experience with hair removal at all. At the
EpiCenter, our owners/operators are medical
professionals with a background in nursing,
pre-medicine or electrology. Please visit our
about us page for our bios. This is helpful
because hair growth is a physiological process,
and to understand how the human body operates
can allow you to perform more successful
treatments. More importantly, we have
encountered clients with suspicious lesions in
areas where they want hair removed. These
lesions need to be assessed by a dermatologist
prior to treatment, as the IPL or a laser can
change and even remove the lesion masking any
possible condition. Our technicians have had
additional training on identifying these lesions
and we never remove any lesions or sunspots
without having clearance from a dermatologist.

How do I know which technology is the best?
Our Centers use Intense Pulsed Light, a/k/a IPL,
which is more advanced than lasers because where
lasers only have one wavelength of light, IPLs
have several different wavelengths allowing more
flexibility for the operator. It is harder to
locate a center that utilizes IPL because this
technology is more difficult to operate as
opposed to your basic laser. IPLs, with their
various wavelengths and parameters, gives the
operator more options than a laser, however
requires an expert professional to achieve
optimal results.
IPL, Intense Pulsed Light
Examples: Epilight, Aculight
Wavelengths: 590-1200nm
Alexandrite
Examples: Candela Gentlelase, Cynosure Apogee
Wavelength: 755
Ruby
Examples: EpiTouch, Palomar e2ooo
Wavelength: 694
Diode
Examples: Lightsheer, EpiStar
Wavelength: 800 or 810 |

Is it Painful?
Most of our clients find this procedure pain
free; however, some find it uncomfortable for
the first treatment if they have very dense
hairs in the areas they wish to treat. All our
clients, who have had laser treatments prior to
coming to our center, agree that it is far less
painful from the laser. We use a non-sticky
clear cooling gel, similar to ultrasound gel, on
the area prior to treatment. This gel acts as a
conductor to the light and cools off the skin
during the treatment to promote comfort.

What is the role of the Physician?
The role of the physician is a source of
referral. If a client has any lesion or dark
spots they wish to remove, we send them to a
dermatologist for assessment prior to removal.
You should never have any spots removed with a
laser or IPL without having a dermatologist
check it, as the laser or IPL can alter, or even
remove, the spot masking any possible condition.
In addition, some clients may appear to have a
hormonal imbalance which is causing severe hair
growth. Sometimes this hair growth can be
treated with medical attention. If this is the
case, these physicians will work with us to help
you achieve optimal results.
Please Note: These physicians are solely for a
source of referral if any medical attention is
needed, as in the above examples, and are not
responsible for or affiliated with any of our
IPL treatments and/or outcomes.

What is the Cost of Treatment?
At our centers, we strive to provide you with
the best possible treatment regime at the most
affordable rates. Prices vary depending on the
surface area and density of hairs in the area
you wish to treat. For example, a client who
wishes to treat her legs may have quite a few
areas where hair does not grow in, in which we
would quote them less than a client who needs us
to cover the entire area. Please call us for a
price quote as we will be more than happy to
give you one over the phone once we know exactly
what you would like to treat and what your hair
removal goals are. |
